The course will focus on building up the students’ vocabularies, improving their writing skills and upgrading their overall English proficiency. Extensive reading assignments on essays, short stories, poems, lyrics, famous speeches and news reports will be assigned. The students are also required to do writings, on weekly basis, of sentences, paragraphs, outlines, essays or study reports. There will be discussions and reviews of the students’ works in class. The goal is to train the students to do independent thinking, learn how to collect their thoughts and present them fluently and persuasively in an organized style.
